Moderation at DSTV Forum.

You are simply an administrator and moderator that is here to assist the "smooth running" of the forum for it's forumites. A Janitor for the lack of a better term.
This made me laugh.

I want to make it clear to everyone here.
I am not out to cause crap for any individual or DSTV forum in general.

I am however against the idea that a forum has a something like a "spam filter" in place that allows them to "approve" posts and threads at will!

What I really, truly dont want is to have people jum on my band wagon now and log on to DSTV forum and create problems.
It will only allow them leverage to ban me.
That will be completely counter-productive to what I am looking at achieving.

I completely agree.
I've been under moderation a number of times on that forum and in none of the cases was it justifiable other than the fact that I disagreed with their point of view.

I've been lurking there for some time (under my very old nick). My kids are not at all pleased that Animax will be terminated...

I am confused. If MC/MCRory is justified by moderating members then why does he claim their posts are being caught in a "spam filter"? Why doesn't he simply advise them they are being moderated if his actions are justified?

Also, the claim that they have thousands of forum members may be true but is highly misleading. Barely any are active posters. What percentage of active posters have ever been moderated? 40%? 60%? 90%?

Thank goodness somebody else raised this point.

They have (as of right now) 16,977 members. Of those, only 1,112 are active. (That's only 6.5% of their total user base.)
Also, "Active" members are calculated as being members who have made at least 1 post in the last 30 days, so the real number is even lower.

I'd say that the real daily "active" member number is around 100 at the VERY most.

I had to post the message in 5 parts - silly 5000 limitation per pm.
So I'll give him some time to respond.

I am however not leaving this matter here until they have restored all my privileges and removed that "auto moderation" system.
I think MC Rory should have been a bit more careful regarding the revelation of the moderation methods and the abuse of the "spam filter".
/shrug

It is what it is.

So we are all okay that special privileges will remain in place for the two pets?
Okay with threads being arbitrarily closed?
Okay with posts being approved and later deleted?
Okay with the often condescending tone from staff?
We can't surrender. John Stuart Mill LIVES!

I have been advised to remove the pm.
I was referred to the DSTV Forum T&C's in regards to me reposting pms here.

I have referred to the T&C's again and could not see anything.

The MC mod was rather surprised as to my actions as she was under the perception that this was resolved.
Not entirely sure where she got that notion from.

Get a screen cap + hardcopy printout of those T&C's before they amend (but then there is always the waybackmachine if it was archived - not alway the case).

Hmm, do dstv.com terms and conditions apply to the entire internet? Even if such T&C's exist at dstv.com surely that only prohibits you from posting those PM's on dstv.com forums?

I honestly don't know.
I have contacted someone to advise me on this matter.

In the mean time, I am still an active member, even with approval required, messaging MC mods to approve my posts.

Furthermore, PM notifications via email include the entire content of the PM, not just a notification. Do MC T&C's also prohibit the screen capture of (for example) GMail content?

What if one paraphrases the content of the PM? Is that also prohibited by the reich?

As I have said before.
I have read through the DSTV T&C's and the forum registration rules and regulations and there is nothing regarding the reposting of pm's either on DSTV forum or on any other format for that matter.

As I have said before.

Yep, aware, just rhetorical questions :)

What's also "remarkable" is how you get a quick reply/reprimand when you post the content of that PM on myBB - while other paying customers often wait for days, weeks, months and sometimes eternity for replies to questions posted to MC on the forums.

I have received a reply and there is not much they are able to do regarding my post on here.
It does not breach any of their T&C's and does not relay any confidential information of a personal or professional level.
