My led lights on the stoep flicker when powered by the modified sine wave inverter. Would this be because they are on a dimmer switch or because of the 'choppy' current?

I am guessing they have a Mini transformer inside....

dimmer switch - if they're not designed for dimming they will flicker.

They don't flicker on Eskom power so they must be designed for dimming??

If I can jump onto this thread. I replaced the florescent fitting in my garage with a square AC/DC branded square LED fitting this week.

The led light turns on/off (like a flicker) every now and then even though the light switch is off.

It's the only light connected to that switch as far as I know .

Why would the light do that ? Whole house is on inverter but no other lights do this.

Can I suspect that the led fixture is borked. I bought it two years ago but only installed this week

LEDs emit light with very little current. So induced voltage in the cables leading to the socket could be causing it. See if you can correlate it with something else changing, like fridge compressor kicking in or something

before you do anything just swop the live and neutral wires where you connected it inside the housing .

Interesting.. another thing the stoep lights do is they are never completely off. You can see this barely visible glow all the time at night. Not in the rest of the house, although they are all the same lights

same thing try swop the live and neutral around .sounds crazy i know .it works sometimes its because of the low current involved and feedback .BUT if its an edison screw the centre contact must be the live (switched wire)

some surge arresters allow say 1.5ma at a low voltage to pass through them which can cause feedback on an led light .making it glow .
