Johannesburg - The executive mayor of Mogale City resigned on Thursday due to ill health.
The DA said Lynn Pannall was forced to cut back on her busy schedule, and that it had reached a point where it would be detrimental for her and the mayor's office to continue in the post.
Councillor Pannall took over the reins of the City following the August local government elections.
The DA has called on the speaker to urgently convene a special council meeting to elect a new mayor.
In November, Pannall was accused of running the municipality from home. She had allegedly not been at work since September.
At the time, Pannall said she had fallen ill, but was continuing to do her job. She was still responsible for key staffing decisions, especially senior positions like municipal manager.
The DA won the position of Mogale City mayor through a coalition with opposition parties following the August 3 local government elections. It was one of the metros where the ANC lost support.
