No not the blind animal. I have this little mole on my bicep, it's kinda cute, I like having him around. But since I've been weight training I can swear he's getting bigger! So I'm considering having him removed.

Has anyone ever done a self-removal? That method whereby you tie a string around the mole and it eventually falls off? I understand it can be dangerous so I'll probably go to a doctor. Any ideas how much it would cost?

IF you do it yourself, rather use liquid nitrogen and "burn" it off.

I strongly recommend that you get your doctor to do it.

Thanks. Does it have to be a dermatologist or will a regular GP do?

Ek het jou gesĂŞ jy moesie die moesie afbrand nie!

Go to a doctor rather.

Just call your GP first and find out on which days they have the Liquid Nitrogen available. As far as I know GPs do not have it on a daily basis but rather schedule those types of procedures for the same day when they have LQ available. Its best to go to your GP so that he can have a look and see if it look like a normal mole or whether there seem to be suspicious changes to the mole which warrants further investigation.

It needs to be done ...

I just had 3 removed. My GP does it in his office and it's a minor procedure. He used some weird radio frequency scalpel that cauterizes the wound as it cuts and then he puts in some stitches to help the wounds heal. He's being a bit fussy with me because I've just come off two weeks of antibiotics, so he can't give me any more, so I have to go in regularly for him to change the dressing.

I would seriously recommend you have this done at the doctor's office and have him send it off for analysis, like mine did. The lab report mentioned that mine were ok but the one on my back needed some observation for recurrence. If the mole's growing, it could be pretty serious, especially if it's very dark or has a "halo" effect, meaning dark with a lighter border. If it's almost pitch black and "shiny", it could be really serious. Have it checked out. :)

One of my moles was removed at the dermatologist (though I came in for acne). I am sure the GP can do it.

EDIT: never take moles for granted, friends dad has cancer.

Had 2 removed about 3 months ago.The GP did it in his consulting rooms. He just used a plain scalpel and cut both out. I must say they were bleeding a lot. One was on the side of my face next to my ear and one behind the other ear. Also got a stitch or 2. Glad I did it because it looks much better. It was send to the lab but luckily it was clean. I was worried because a week or 2 before they were removed they started itching and the 1 on the side of my face started bleeding and its edges got rough.

Let a doctor remove them.

I had a mole removed on my hip, my GP did it. You don't feel a thing, and it heals beautifully. Do NOT do this at home. If you get it done, keep it clean, and use something like Bio-oil, it takes away any marks. I have no mark what so ever.

I have a cindy crawford type facial mole... SO thinks its quite, gonna cut that bugger out soon

As others have mentioned: Do not do this at home. Just don't.

Most GP's can do this in a few minutes: My GP usually uses a can of 'frost' spray: not sure what is in it, but they spray it over the mole and a few days later it falls off ...

Painless and quick.

But, just in case nobody mentioned this: Do not do this at home / yourself.

I have had moles cut out and frozen off on a different occasions, the one that was frozen off left a little pale dot while the one that the doctor cut out left no mark.
