Monitor for around a grand?

Eh? I mean how would the quality suffer if being used as a pc monitor? Eh? Afaik PC's connect to monitors using d-sub. Or do new pc's connect to monitors using HDMI?

It depends on the resolution that you're going for. For HD, you have to go DVI/HDMI. D-Sub will only work with the lower resolutions.

Oh I see. For example watching full HD videos via VGA?

My lappie only has vga and I use it for everything incl watching movies. Some times I can see scan line artifacts on my 46" HD LCD.

HD is 1920x1080. VGA cables should comfortably be able to do up to 2048Ă—1536 which is much higher than HD.

Just get the Samsung 18.5" for R699 at Makro, at the price point you really can't be picky, also the whole DVI vs HDMI thing for a 18.5" monitor is really insignificant.

The minimum requirement for any monitor should be at least a DVI input. Rather give it a miss and look some more.

I've experienced this on my own monitors when using d-sub. Image appears slightly 'snowy/noisy' (not much though) if I could call it that.

Using the analog D-sub connection from my PC to monitor gives the display a yellowing tint as opposed to the brilliant super-white via DVI. Same graphics card both outputs connected to the same monitor.

Friend of mine might have a couple of Asus 22" something or the others to sell 2nd hand, they are awesome, I've used them. We'll see.

I got one of those big fancy belkin dvi cables from work and try as i might i couldn't tell the difference between it and the cable my 23" came supplied with.

Sent from my GT-I9000

I see zero difference between HDMI and VGA on my PC at home using a 21.5" Monitor at 1920x1080, I was also very paranoid because people always told me that VGA would get snowy or have noise/artifacts appear but after testing extensively I can say that they are exactly the same {for me}.

I think I've been swayed by this D-Sub argument. The 22"s I mention earlier are damned nice and in perfect condition, so I'll see, depending on the outcome there.

Wouldn't worry, used the monitor before and it's great!

It's the best bang for around R1k, that's for sure.

At the resolutions these monitors run at.. d-sub is just fine... you won't notice..

I occasionally get scanlines on my one monitor using Dsub... PURELY because the connector isn't making connection perfectly anymore, a bit of a jiggle and a reseat and alls good with the world again.
