Monitor for TV

I have an old TV that is connected to dstv decoder via a standard (non hdmi) cable.
I want to replace the TV. Can I use a computer monitor rather than purchase a new TV? After all the TV signal is coming from the dstv decoder!

What decoder and does it have HDMI out ??

I have a Pace HD DSTV decoder. The TV I want o replace is far away from it with only a "normal old fashioned coax cable"
I can't replace this cable as I don't want to cut through walls

How would I connect the speakers?
