Got a problem with my brother's computer.

He has been having a problem where once or twice, his computer would randomly switch off by itself, he was suspecting it of overheating.

Now, it has done that, but now the monitor is getting no signal from the GFX card.

I have tried another monitor - same thing, tried a different cable, tried the monitor port on the MOBO as well, same result.

Anyone know what it could be?

My first suspect would be PSU: Also the easy one to test. Otherwise it might be your mobo, in which case you might cry a little bit.

Another suspect is the GFX card itself? Try another graphics card in it, or revert to the onboard, if it has one.

I'm guessing he tried that if he used the monitor port on the mobo.

Best bet would be to try a new PSU.

If you're getting lights on your tower...

Remove RAM, boot and wait for beeping, switch off, replace RAM & power up. If it doesn't work first time, try different slots on the mobo using the same process. Even try individual RAM sticks instead of loading them all.

Some mobo's require you to go into the bios and tell it you want to use onboard and not the vga card so unless he unplugged the vga card there is a good possibility it would come up blank as the mobo would be booting from the vga card.

Remove the Graphics card from the pc and try the onboard graphics
