Monitor Problem

Sorry Steve i only dropped off CGA monitors .. :D

Seriously sounds like something has come loose. try taking everything off cpu memory and refitting just start with one memory card and no stiffy cd rom hdd conected - if nothing swop memory you should at least get bios screen.

will try

once I'm finished with your cga monitor I'll redonate it, can't believe it was only R1, I need to spk to these people

Okay so I disconnected everything, took out all the ram, just left the power to the mobo and the various cables that run to the fans and the power switch, the mobo LED comes on green, but no startup.

So I then I took out the battery and left it for 30 seconds. Still nothing, I'm sure there are some jumpers I need to play with but will have to look for the mobo book.

At this point I'm not even connecting the monitor anymore, system just dead.

* one memory card and no stiffy cd rom hdd conected - if nothing swop memory you should at least get bios screen.
*cpu and graphics cards must also be in to see if bios screen shows.
*psu - fan should be running
* if it was working before then jumpers should stay as they were unless you changed something.

I bought this mobo about 2 months ago, now that I think about it, the guy at the shop had the same issue with the board he was trying to sell me, could see the LED but no boot, he then told me that he'd had this problem before with this mobo (Asus P4P800-X) and would need to order another one. Instead of waiting I bought the same board from another shop and he installed it, now it appears it's gone the same way as the board he tried to sell me.

Okay I give up. I'll take it back to the shop and post the problem/solution when I have one.

Thanks for all the kind advice

For the sake of the forum

Ok so it was the mobo (Asus P4P800-X) I saw other users with the similar issues so I took it back (only bought it 2 months ago) Naked IT Campus square immediately swapped it for the Asus P4P800-SE board (charging me R70 for the price difference and no labour charge) They promised me I shouldn't have any problems and all seems ok right now.

I have a P4P800 SE and have had zero problems, it absolutely kicks ass :)

have you used the overclock function? On the last board I had it oc'd by 20% and although I don't think that led to it's demise I'm a little reluctant to play around just yet.

Also BIOS update using their software, it's just so hit or miss whether you get on the server of not.

Yep, it overclocks like a demon. I overclock manually though, I don't use the preset 5%, 10% etc. settings.

A few days later, on powerup, the monitor doesn't work. The monitor has it's own power supply (not from PC) when I power up the PC the amber light on the monitor switches to green for a split second before going back to amber.

There are no bleeps coming from the Mobo (so there does not appear to be a mobo issue) and by the sound of the disks spinning it, it seems all is normal.

No beeps from the mboard? It should at least give ONE beep to indicate a successful POST. And the fact the the monitor's LED turns green then goes back to amber?

Remove ALL devices [including gfx, hard disks/optical and stiffy] and try to boot [listen for the beep]. It might give a one long/two short beep code indicating a gfx problem. If it still doesn't boot, remove the RAM and listen for a beep code indicating no RAM. Can't remember the RAM code atm.

Thanks Controlc

I know you live in your own little world, so do I half the time, but yup there was some funny stuff going on, I was getting beeps, then I wasn't.... It was when I took the mobo out completely, laid it down on plastic then tried to power it with no peripherals attached. Then I saw others (in other forums) having similar problems so I went armed and dangerous back to the shop and I'm not sure if it's coz they know me or coz they know the probs with that mobo. But anyway it got sorted very quick.

Perdition I've overclocked to 20% again and it's flying nicely (although the staff at the shop laughed at my tiny little Celeron 2.2g CPU)

How do you overclock manually and what are the benefits? Any links I can check out?

The benefit is you can push all your components as far as they will go. I don't think you'd get much past the 20% you're already running at but it can be something fun to try on a rainy day.

If you want to learn more about overclocking the best way is to search in Google for "overclock" plus the name of your motherboard. You should get quite a few hits in various overclocking forums. Read, read and read some more before playing with settings you're unsure of :)

Monitor / Asus V9520-X Problem

Hey guys, I just stumbled on this forum when I searched at Google. Seems I have the same problem. I have just bought a Asus V9520-X and my monitor just won't come on, the light just stays yellow. Everything else is working, it even boots into Windows XP cuz I hear the little sound it makes when WinXP loads. I tryed setting and resetting the card into the slot but still nothing. Fortunatly I still have the TNT2 I was replacing and when I put that into the slot everything works fine. Now, I have a fairly old system. Its a P3 733, 256mb Ram, and an AOpen AX34 II mother board, and a 433 max power supply. I thought originally that maybe the power supply wasn't powerfull enough to power this chip so I disconnected everything from the PCI and the CD-Roms and stuff but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appericated.

With that new card, do ou see the loading ? (black screen with white text) or is blank all the time ?

Just black all the time. When I start up the computer the monitor just stays off, the light stays yellow (insted of green when its on). Thanks.
