I'm looking at upgrading my old 19" Monitor since I'm mostly using my PC, which is relatively old and has a nvidia 8600GT GPU, as a media center now days using plex. I do game occasionally, and i do occasionally do some typing etc on it.

My budget is small i don't want to spend more than R4000-5000 so that limits options, but I'm looking at these two items:

Monitor: https://www.makro.co.za/computing-and-mobile/samsung-27-led-monitor-295808EA

TV: https://www.makro.co.za/electronics/lg-32-81cm-hd-ready-led-tv-294543EA

Who does use TV's as monitors, does it work well? Not too much of a strain on resolution video/game quality etc?
Other thoughts/opinions?

cheap tv's for it down work

used a cheap jvc,looks crap
cheap telefunkin looks crap

the text is horrable, unreadable, just not worth it

with my samsung, that have a pc-dvi mode, text is readable and games looks nice

but you will start to miss the quality and smoothness a real pc screen have
i know i do :P

So you would recommend going with the 27" PC monitor which would be big enough for the small media center setup?

For Plex and movies and whatnot, a TV.
For gaming, a monitor.

depends on how far you sit,and if its just for movies,a cheap tv can work, but just dont try to read text on it :P
game had the 40inch FHD on special for 5k

but the 27" one may be a better option,as its made for pc text,so text will look good,as it have to do some scaling on the tv,and the PPI on the 27" are also alot more so text will also be alot better

going from 19" to 27" will be nice,

can u do dual monitor setup? i used to have that, cheap 32" telefunkin for movies/series and 23" samsung for main use

also, does the 8600 have hdmi port?
as if it only have a vga,its useless to get a full hd tv

so ports on gpu? ports on tv?

It has two DVI ports, so dual screen is an option yes...

just looked at your links now :P

i will go with the 27"

size difference not that big,

27-higher res-more ppi and made for pc's

32-low res-**** ppi and not made for pc use ,just normal tv,and at that res, your icons and everything will be so big and just a pain to use,you can also get "dull/blurry text" from that as it have to do scaling and stuff

and on the 27" u can enjoy blueray quality

on the 32" have to stick to normal 720p stuff
