Hi there,

we have a network of 25 computers using the internet connection via WRT54GL router with DD-WRT installed. i think somebody is abusing the internet by downloading some HEAVY stuff...how is it possible for me to monitor the INTERNET (WAN) bandwidth usage per LAN Computer...not the internal LAN traffic...bcoz we do share BIG files in between LAN users...

Thanx in advance.

i've played around with a few bandwidth monitors but they all measure LAN traffic as well, so they're pretty useless for checking internet only usage. would also like to know if there's anything out there that can differentiate between Internet and LAN usage...

What you need is smoothwall/IPcop. You can use a bandwidth monitor add-on.

can you not run iftop on either the Linksys or on a nix gateway? Then do something like
iftop -ni eth1 -f "not host X.X.X.X"

thanks for the suggestions (noted for future use), but right now i need something for a client to run on an XP box for him to monitor his son's internet usage. anything *nix or router related is way above his capabilities, and this is a favour so i have no inclination to do any serious work on this :)

i was hoping something like DU Meter with a bit more intelligence existed.... will keep looking.

google WireShark and NetMonitor. Might be picture perfect, but atleast you can see something....which is better than nothing !
