Hi All,

I have recently installed a dsl line in my house..

I live in a house share with 4 other people, and would like to monitor the traffic incase we get capped, to check who has been using the most data..

I have a billion 5200(s) single port dsl modem and a netgear 4 port router / ap connected, to route the traffic.

Is there any applications i can run on the routers or from my computer to monitor the activity ??

thanks for your help.

Get an old computer and install a proxy service on it. Give each user a static IP address and then you can monitor the traffic per user.

I used Smoothwall Express with a few mods from their community forum when I shared my ADSL with my neighbor and it worked quite well.

Lucky i Have my own ADSL not shared.

Without a gig a month I wonder how life will be!

if you can, go with Squid-proxy on a linux-box. It will allow you to set quotas for users, give you the reports of who accessed what and will also safe you some bandwidth as it will cache content. (BTW: Won't work for FTP/P2P protocols)

well.. i really dont mind sharing it as it costs me R150 a month for a 4mb line with a nice cap..

I think installing an extra box is not really an option. I was really looking for a way to do it within the router, or an app like netlimiter.

fragtion_ - does shutting down the host computer running netlimiter affect the stats?

thanks for all your help guys
