Hi All,

I have recently been eating up my data really quickly (2Gb in the last 2 days vs an average of 6Gb per month).

I wanted to know if there is someway to understand which device connected via Wi-Fi is using what data ? Is there some sort of a monitor that can be put in place so that I can understand which of my PCs or iPhones, iPad etc is eating this up so quickly.

I use iBurst desktop modem connected via a Cisco Linksys X1000 router and I usually have my laptop, my PC, my wifes MacBook and both our iPhones configured to work with wifi.

Also, is it possible to go back in time to see usuage or would the monitor have had to be in place first - I assume that would have to be the case ....

Your help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Victor

Proxy server or better yet a mikrotik router should do.

Sorry, I don't understand .... I already have the hardware - was wondering if there is some sort of software program that could do this for me

You'll need to install an application on each device that logs traffic usage. Netlimiter works well for Windows machines.

If you had a compatible router you could install a 3rd party firmware like OpenWRT/Tomato which has features like this but your router is not compatible. Easiest way would be to go with a Mikrotik router as suggested.

You would need to send all your network traffic through a single point where it can be controlled/managed/monitored. This is where a Mikrotik router comes in. Reasonably simple to set up - your modem (and AP) becomes a dumb device. The mikrotik then does all the DHCP, routing, shaping (if you want), etc. Then it becomes dead easy to see what is using the data or at least, which machine. On the machine itself, you will need other tools like Netlimiter (for windows). I suppose you could start there? Might be easier.

If you have the ddwrt, what would be the program to load?
Got a linksys similar to op but got the hacked firmware.

I guess it's different for each firmware. I've got ROOter Huntsman installed on my TP-Link which is based off OpenWRT, I've got the option under Network -> Bandwidth Monitoring.
