Monitors - LCD or LED

LED is better in some regards as the colour's are more accurate, What is your budget because i would not recommend buying a cheap led monitor as i bought my wife one an lg e series and the quality is rubbish, 2 months later i bought her a samsung 22inch which was about R500 more but the quality was much much better.

I am looking for a 20" monitor
What is best? LCD or LED

Thanks

An LED-backlit LCD is a flat panel display that uses LED backlighting instead of the cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting used in most other LCDs. The use of LED backlighting allows for a thinner panel, lower power consumption, better heat dissipation, a brighter display, and better contrast levels.[1] LED backlit LCD TVs use the same TFT LCD technologies as CCFL backlit LCD TVs. Picture quality is primarily based on TFT LCD technology independent of backlight type.

Both the same. LED backlighting is brighter which tends to produce brighter colours, but this is not necessarily an improvement in terms of picture quality. Higher contrasts lose out on finer details within colours...

At the end of the day, both are LCD's. LED backlighting could suit bright rooms, or people that want bright screens (which leads to lesser PQ)... LED backlighting is certainly not worth the 10-20% premium we often see, and it's certainly not MUCH better than CCFL backlighting, especially in PC screens, as it's usually portrayed.

Agree, the difference between the two technologies is not sufficient to make one type automatically better than the other. I have several monitors around the house and the most accurate one (according to a Spyder4) is a CCFL monitor.

Rather get opinions on the specific models of monitors you are looking at.

i do feel LCD is softer on the eyes for long hour office work. (Even when adjusting the brightness settings between the two)
Caveat: It also might be totally dependent on the brand and model so there might be many exceptions.

Like the guys mentioned it really depends what you going to use it for, normal office apps and messing around with photo's and games a lcd/ led lcd would suffice. Where colour accuracy is more your thing (graphic design, photo retouching etc.) you will need to look at an Ips or a spva Panel to take advantage of the full srgb spectrum the monitor supports for colour accuracy.

That's pretty much it. Not worth pondering picture quality with run of the mill 6 bit TN LCD panels.

LED because they are thinner and better looking.. that is all.

And spending less electricity

Few sources on the net about power consumption but saving between 40-50%

"Their power consumption is as much as 40% lesser than conventional LCD monitors. They are also a lot more eco-friendly because mercury is not used in their production."

"When using LED backlight, the power consumption can be reduced by 50 per cent. In Samsung's 40inch LCD TV, it consumed 170W. After it changed to LED backlight, it only consumed 100W," Mao said.

Samsung states that 23" screen uses 29W of power that is half of what you typical spot light using in hour.
