More Advice re: Moving overseas

I am going lay the whole story out here and hopefully a kind myBB citizen could help me with advice.

My partner has access to Austrian and UK citizenship and we have decided to move (We are young with no dependents) and it seems like a good time.

We have been discussing options - her field is very employable - mine not as much. We have about R200k saved up thus far.

I have managed to source a job which may send me to Ireland - however it seems that's not really going help me get UK/Austrian citizenship - in other words any time spent in Ireland will actually be a waste in terms of getting my own ILR/ Citizenship within either Austria or UK (I was hoping the EU was interchangeable and my time spent in Ireland would count towards Austrian citizenship - alas no)

Should I move to Ireland and search for a job in the UK or go for broke and head straight for the UK and look for work when I get there.

I would try for Irish citizenship - but 9 years :'(
 
Dont stress about Citizenship. It isn't really worthwhile.
Just get your work visa and you're good to go
 
Fair enough - I just don't want to be in a position where I am forced to move due to unforeseen circumstances, I am big on security
 
I guess I could live in Northern Ireland near the border and work in the Republic. An hours train ride won't kill me. There are tax implications though

Just be careful, after Brexit that will be closed!

Depends if you want to live in the UK or somewhere else in the EU. In terms of holiday travel they are (and will continue to be) pretty similar.

Its a touch decision when I don't know about opportunity/work life balance in all the EU countries. I am assuming UK will be easiest
 
Since your girlfriend is the one with the dual nationalities and the very employable career shouldn't she the one who should decide where to go? Your savings will go further in Austria as the British pound is quite strong and you will be out of funds quite soon. Perhaps your girlfriend should apply to jobs in both countries and see where she can land a job first and then you go there. Kind of like fate deciding for you.
