Yet again this morning Afrihost hosting is giving problems. According to support, there is a problem with the general data store for a number of hosts. What is perturbing is that there problem was reported 5 hours ago and has gotten worse and worse. A follow-up was needed before Afrihost even responded. For more than 1 hour now the server we host on has been virtually inaccessible, and now shows a server load of 138 (according to support anything over 5 is a sign of a problem).

Yet again the hosting problems are dragging out over hours during peak times and are having a serious effect on our reputation as clients complain about not being able to access our site (not to mention the cost of not being able to update it ourselves on a Monday morning).

The last time we highlighted the continuing issues stalling hosting, someone at Afrihost disabled access to the Server Status on our other hosting. Nice response.

So basically it seems that a small savings in hosting means absolute unreliability. Between our two sites we have seen roughly 7 moves in a few months because of server issues (we're averaging over one move per month).

Afrihosts response to all the problems is "please upgrade to Dedicated Hosting", despite the fact that the problems have nothing to do with us and out system puts minimal load on the servers. ie. Give us more money and we might start being reliable.

Enough is enough. You've been given enough chances.

Funny how I just commented on this on another thread. If you host on a shared computer, you get what you pay for. If someone else on that server causes the load to get that high, you will suffer. Afrihost's response, while cheeky under the circumstances, is pretty sound business advice. If you want to sell hosting, you'd better be on a dedicated host so that you at least control your environment. Reselling shared hosting is just asking for trouble.

12 hours and counting. Still not sorted out. According to Afrihost its not some client's website pushing the load up. Besides, that could have been sorted out quickly. And we do not resell hosting - we provide an information service using the web. Interesting that overseas providers do not find this kind of effective down-time acceptable even on shared hosting environments.

I have sent them 5 emails over the past 2 days and have not even received an automated response. I get the impression that Afrihost is imploding, even it's own internal systems are not reliable.

It seems that they only put up a network notice about the issues at 2pm. We reported it at 3:45am this morning and then again at 7:47am. They can't even be bothered to post network notices quickly.

We've been hearing "We hope to have this resolved shorty" since 8:00 am this morning. Are all the competent technicians on leave? Clearly they don't take uptime seriously.

At least try using quotes if you want to use my text verbatim.
