Hello all!

I have been having some major problems with my ADSL and thought it best to just drop it and use Iburst

The thing is there is no tower up in my town(klerksdorp), now i just read of someone in krugersdorp and rustenburg using it. excuse me if it is covered there but can anyone tell me if it is possible to still use it if i fall near covered areas.

I really hope they are planning to set up a tower here soon, doe anyone know how good that chance is? I just want to go wireless as soon as possible! I know they are putting in new towers fast, but will they be planning on covering everyone?

Doubt it emerald even though I dont have iburst there is a tower 15km's from my house when I mailed iburst to ask if I will have any signal they told me no

That sucks, but oh well, maybe we will just have to wait for them to put up more toweres!

Thanks for helping:)

AFAIK Klerksdorp is planned for a tower by Nov-Dec 2006.

Shaun Green may care to comment a bit more here?

Approx. 6 months ago I put iBurst in for a mate who who stays pretty much in Krugersdorp West. According to utTraceStar, I got it connected to Roodepoort WT which is (if my memory serves me correctly) 16 km from him with an average signal of -92, with no external antenna. OK, but a rather clever way of positioning the modem outdoors had to be devised. Still works like a dream.

I dont know Joburg, but with a 18db ext. aerial and good posistioning you can cover pretty big distances on Iburst and still get good reception.

pl us it will make you feel so much better when they do put up a tower. Then suddenly it will be way faster.

iBurst (or at least its signal) has a very simple cut-the-bull way arround poor signal: The higher you can get the modem, the higher your speeds and the better the connection. And it costs less than R100 to set up. You dont need a little box with green lights parked with all the other bits and pieces looking fancy on your desk. Constant 1mbps speed is much more impressive.
