Dear Movie Geeks

I hope you don't mind a bit of cross-posting here, but I'd like to share this announcement with those of you who aren't members of our Facebook group:

Twenty years ago, the Nu Metro logo with which you are so familiar went public. Yes, on Friday, February 19th, 1988, the movie section of the newspapers sported this strange new 'N' shape to mark the occasion. (Death Wish IV was the new movie of the week!).

1988 had seen quite a growth spurt for the group of cinemas in the decades prior. In 1957, it was one screen - the 'Metro,' with a 6-digit phone number. In 1973, there were four outlets: Bedfordview Metro 1 & Metro 2 (with a ladies' cocktail bar), Plein St. downtown, and a drive-in. The two at Bedfordview are still running, alongside their 6 younger brothers and sisters. In 1973, the four screens were part of the M.G.M. Film Trust - M.G.M. being Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the root of the name. 20th Century Fox had its own cinema.

Now, in 2008, entertainment has expanded into so many niches - gaming and interactive to online booking on the WWW. Digital Cinema to Digital 3D to digital surround sound. Nu Metro now shows Twentieth (yes, Twentieth) Century Fox's films. On over 200 screens. Nu Metro video has seen VHS beat out BetaMax in the format wars, only to be superceded by the new kid on the block: DVD. Now high definition Blu-Ray Disc is coming on strong, and its rival format, HD-DVD, retired today, along with Fidel Castro.

After having served us well for 20 years, the old brand is also being retired, in favour of a newer, warmer, more energetic identity. You will get to know this new friend as time goes by, and it will guide you toward more. Click onto the Nu Metro page on Facebook for a closer look!

More adventure. More romance. More action. More comedy. More magic.
That's why our new slogan is:

more entertaining

And I'm glad you're here with us to see what lengths we can go to to experience more. The future is here. More to come. Wanna go for a ride?

The Nu Metro website sports this new look, but it, too will be replaced completely within a couple of weeks.

Thanks for sharing!
