King wants R17m more

These are tough times economically but King Goodwill Zwelithini wants another R17-million for palatial extravagance.

The monarch's budget was increased to R59.5-million this year but he now wants an additional R12-million to splash out on a modern house at his Nyokeni palace, and another R5-million to refurbish a farmhouse into a palace for Queen Zola Mafu.

The chief financial officer in the Royal Household Department, Mduduzi Mthembu, told members of the royal household and office of the premier portfolio committee in the provincial legislature yesterday that the funding for the new accommodation would probably be spread over the next three years.

The monarch has asked that the R12-million for his new house be given in tranches: R4-million in the next financial year, R6-million and R2-million in the following financial years.

The money for the queen's abode would be sourced over the next four years, said Mthembu.

Queen Mafu, one of Zwelithini's six queens, is living at KwaKhangelamankengana with Queen Mantombfi Dlamini, the sister of Swaziland's King Mswati III.

Portfolio committee chairman Sipho Gcabashe said the committee would not vote on the matter until the Treasury had tabled its budget.

COPE provincial legislator Lucky Gabela said that the request would form part of the royal household department's budget, which is subject to scrutiny by the Treasury.

This king contributes nothing to the welfare of the country, is not a tourist attraction and does no good works, unlike the English royal family. Maybe it should be suggested to him that he goes out to work to justify the money being allocated to him?
 
They should raise the money from his subjects. Not from the fiscus in general.
 
This is a republic not a monarch. He should be cut from the budget and have his followers donate money to his cause.

This is getting beyond acceptable.

R60m budget and this prat wants another R17m?

He must prove his financial worth to this country, then we will contemplate giving more money... if he can't we need to decrease his budget.
 
I had the joys of getting caught up in this pricks cavalcade in Pongola late one night, was filling up at a service station when suddenly 4 VIP protection cars and 3 big Mercs swept in, about 12 bodyguards jumped out armed to the teeth and spread themselves around the place, then some woman (possibly one of the wives), got out and tootled off into the quick stop to buy some snacks, pathetic! :mad:

Agreed, we should cut them off or at the very least lower their payment.
 
There was a guy begging outside my work place yesterday, wonder if I showed him the article what he'd think, probably just shrug it off i suppose.

We keep getting told about the huge inequality that exists in SA........I better not continue or face being banned.

I bet you he gets the extra funds as the ANC see guys like this as bringing in votes ... so what if they have to buy the votes with your and my tax money ... its not like any of the ANC pay taxes so its not them paying for this
 
I can only laugh at this idiocy. King of some backwater tribe and he gets money from the government. I say that the Afrikaaners should decide who the rightful heir is and claim that they have a king of the Boers. Get some free money.
