Umm I got some really nice high res air photos of the whole of Tshwane... (i.e. I can see the pool cleaner in the pool) I have a couple of probs.

1. I don't own the copyright on them.
2. Its over 20GB so I cant sent it to the google guys. (Becides I don't see a submission page)
3. Even if I could get the guys that have the copyright to agree, how would you contact the guys that run google earth?

Well you got to admit, Durbs and Cape Town are much prettier to look at than Joburg. I mean, whats your guys main attractions, a couple of mine dumps and the Telkom tower? Can't blaim em if you ask me ;)

Eh? World's largest man-made non-commecial forest? Cape Twon is a wasteland in comparison.

A question about connecting - I installed google earth earlier today and covered much of the globe, however the connection failed at some point and I haven't been able to reconnect since. I noticed a post from a few days back that someone else had the same problem, anyone know what it might be? My internet connection is fine, just google earth doesn't connect. Do any ISPs / telkom block google earth? Judging from the times of the posts here it seems some of you have been more successful, so I assume the google earth servers aren't the cause.

I very much doubt whether there is any way to submit photos to google... all the photos are sourced from satalite networks and not from normal aeiral photos.

What you can do however - if you have legal puplic domain hi-res pics - is write KML file (a version of XML) that can be used to add extra content to the GE images: including markers, roads, feature names and even entire images can be aligned over portions of the map.

Anyone know of any interesting KML resources for South Africa...

I have noticed the same thing...Waterkloof is particularly well covered :D

What I noticed is that all the areas which could be construed to be "sensitive" i.e. Military bases, strategic points etc. are all very well covered.
I know of quite a few of these areas which are not generally known about and they are all highly defined in Google Earth.
Fortunately my house is in one of these areas and you could almost make out my dogs :)
Given the size of the shrubs and trees on my property I would say that the image is cose to three years old though.

Very nice app, quite addictive, but beware - Heavy on bandwidth.
