Rumours are surfacing that Telkom is going ahead with another cut in their management ranks.

Initial indications at the beginning of 2014 were that Telkom was looking to trim away 1000 managers and specialists.

During the retrenchment process in the second half of 2014, around 400 employees either accepted voluntary severance packages or were retrenched.

Several sections were not impacted at the time, especially those targeted for outsourcing, e.g. the BCX merger.

The latest outsourcing deals affecting the Call Centres, Printing Works, legacy IT Billing systems and the Procurement supply chain staff will not give them the management numbers they are targeting as it involves mostly operational staff.

Hence more managers will face the chop. Soon. Very soon.

Haven't they culled in excesses of 15000 over the years? They're a badly managed org and I think it's their biggest shareholder who is causing them problems not letting them be run as a business. Look at Sizwe who for all intents failed at Telkom but created massive value at First Rand showing that it's political interfering that's the problem.

I'll have to check on numbers. The one that I do remember is that in 1991 there were 67 667 employees.
