More phones, fewer calls

Since getting whatsup on my 3 year old phone, I have cut down on my spend (voice/sms) by 1000%. I actually have money left at the end of them month. I chat 95% with the wife on whatsup!

Let's all club together and not phone anyone from our phones and just use what's app. On WiFi

It's because text is cheaper you idiots! Does it really take panels of "experts" and working lunches to deduce that the average human being will ALWAYS go the cheaper/free route?
The trick is to maintain decent service levels, but that comes down to word of mouth and reputation.

Would ypu care to explain this to us? If you cut down on your spend on voice/sms by 100% it is zero, after that it becomes negative and your service provider pays you. I would love to be in that position!

I never make any phone calls whatsoever! I rather chat via social media skype/whatsapp/bbm/wechat/mxit/fb, I am a data user. Making a phone call today for 5minutes can set you back roughly around R6, would rather contribute that R6 towards chatting for longer on the net

Makes you wonder if the future of cellphone networks is to be almost entirely LTE based with SMS's becoming IM and phone calls all being routed over VOIP. Networks won't like it but if the network technology supports it and the price of mobile data decreases due to the increased network efficiency it could become a possibility. VOIP doesn't need too much bandwidth.
