That is official spec for the cpu but in actual reality, the cpu runs 3200mhz - 3600mhz easily. I had an 8700 and it ran ddr4 3600mhz cl16 easily without a glitch. Intel's official spec that is guaranteed is 2666mhz but the cpu easily runs way above that.... As i mentioned earlier, ram speed support is mostly to do with the motherboard and not cpu. AMD also lists 3200mhz as the official spec but the cpu easily runs way above that.
