And now for something completely diffirent....
Well,
I got hold of Vista Beta 2 and a second 80Gb SATA Hd and installed on my box:
P4 3.4Ghz HT
1Gb DDR 400Mhz RAM
7600GT (Golden Sample)
yada yada (not a bad machine)
ok... fess up time...
1) I use Linux & Windows XP (Dual boot) on my machine
2) I hate M$ because of the spyware, cost aspect (Please, no flame intended)
Firstly I had the privilage of getting Suse 10.1 from Novell in Rivonia (free & mahala).. only cost me 15 minutes drive & petrol.
I installed it and was impressed (as usual) yes yes.. its sounds biased and probably is (see above reason #2)
Now, I have been running SuSE 10.1 for about 1 month and doing everything except Guild Wars, GTA:MP, Ghost Recon:AW etc on it. This is the only reason I have winblows on my box seriously...
But ok... without drifting too far off topic..
I eventually got Vista installed and sat back thinking...."Impress me now"..
I am still waiting... The only 'dig' that comes to mind is this little statement...
"Can Microsoft say "Linux with KDE 3.5.x"
All i see is that M$ tried to add prettiness... succeeded with the usual.. Needs state of the art, latest, greatest hardware... to run amicably.
Now this may seem like a rant, but its true. people get forced to buy expensive etc hardware, just because they believe that running M$ Vista with all bells & whistles is the way to go.
Other than that..... I can only say... ag shame... I certainly was expecting something much much much more from the software giant, considering, it is the consumer who through purchases enables them to monopolise the market.
This is of course, my own favourable opinion and there will be plenty who will disagree. Perhaps I am being too harsh considering I am running a beta, or the next obvious question would be.. "Why did you get it?"
First reply is, I am not benchmarking Vista, so if there are to be any improvements in the final... I think that M$ will still fall very short of impressing me (or any Linux user as a matter of fact). I cannot see any gains over what M$ is promising in the future, to what Linux has been doing for years.
The second answer to "Why did I get it" is simply..... I wanted to see.
Again.. I hope that this post is seen as a practicle observation.

I have also added this last link for any linux user who needs a laugh.
Alot of folks slam Linux because of the fact that it has 'diffirent' commands to Windows.............. *Doh*..
Thats because it is a diffirent operating system.. Windows has a difficult UI, layout & commands from a linux system. If you were told when you were introduced to PC's that you will only use Linux... there would be diffirent opinions. Thats why my children have Linux as well as XP installed. So that they will have the choice (as well as the wisdom) to make decisions about what system to use, and not have narrow minded & insecure approaches to diffirent operating systems
There is nothing windows can do, that Linux cant, now everyone just needs to understand that.
