So basically I read all over that more than 8GB ram is overkill.

So If I play battlefield 3 I see my RAM usage is just unser 90% of my 8GB. So should I add another 4GB or not?

Ohh and as for overclocking my RAM, is that really necessary? Will it even make a difference if you overclock the RAM.

Sjoe what else do you have open? What's RAM usage before plating BF3? Other system specs? I think even with BF3 and SC2 and quite a bit else open I'm only hitting about 6GB.

I have 16GB of RAM at home. Not always overkill. Depends on your application workload.

At work we easily run out of memory with 8gb. But it is Java development work which is kinda known for loving memory. In that case it isn't overkill.

My home PC I have 16GB because I've disabled the page file (SSD). There it is definitely overkill but it only cost about R800 for 16GB for why not.

Since you get close to using all your physical memory, you can upgrade if the cost isn't too high.

I get by on 4GB at home for BF3 quite easily, and 3.5GB at work (damn 32bit) also for Java dev :(

I have 8 gig ram, and I Idle at about 2gig. I dont have BF3, but when playing Black Ops or MW3 it hardly ever goes over 4 gig. I might add that I do have a 2gig GPU, and it might help on system ram a bit.. never quite know what cuda is up to ....

As for OC'ing the ram, I cant see the difference between running stock 1333mhz vs my 1600mhz... so ja not sure just how much of a difference it is in reality....

Ouch!

Hopefully not web development? Our application server alone chows that much memory.

Nah just J2SE..

Overclocking RAM doesn't really help that much with performance, only in benchmarks that are RAM intensive will you see any difference, but for gaming I'd doubt it's be more than 1fps if that even..

I bought 12gb ram, for some odd reason with bf 3 i was hitting 6gb.

Memory is so cheap i thought i may as well just run 12gb. I also run no pagefile. Not sure if it's made things better or worse but my machine runs like a dream :D.

I'm pretty sure it makes a difference. I turned off my pagefile also and directly after I did the PC seemed to boot quicker. I think Windows pre-emptively pages to the disk so that there is as much memory free as possible.

Yup when i put it off with 6gb i would get a low memory error with bf 3, since i have gone to 12gb i run it with no hassles at all.

memory is so cheap as well, we may as well run ridiculous amounts :D.

Well I run fraps while I game. Then there is firefox with battleblog. Origin runs.

Steam is always running too my motorola software and antivirus and conectify runs too. ohh and sometimes winamp....

So its not that much but it can go high not sure whats using it but it can hit 80%+ most I saw was 86%
