Hey all,

Anyone having speed issues in Morningside, Johannesburg? Tried both FNB and Afrihost accounts, yet my results are pathetic:

The exchange is supposedly 4mbps.

Just thought I would tell you, you are on (supposedly) the benmore exchange, my aunt also lives in morningside and is on 10mb... Your exchange supports up to 40mb with the new trial

Few people in mbb are actually in morningside taking part in this 40mb trial, which might cause your exchange to be a bit overpacked, my aunt is fine, so lets cross fingers and hope its just for a few days

Thanks for the heads up. Teeny bit peeved since I have zero mobile reception at home and opted for the DSL in the hopes that I could resolve my internetlessness.

I know what you feel like, same here ... Is it okay if I asked what area code is ur tele line on? E.g. 011-783

For what it's worth my router is reporting the following:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 3.0 db 2.5 db
Noise Margin 25.1 db 17.0 db

I don't know if this may help, but try and change you're adsl modulation to adsl2+... U can easily get waaaay over 10mb

Try and call talk I'm on 10210 and ask them to change your sync profile to 10mb after you change ur modulation

My aunt is on the exact same 783 number... She seems to be fine so let's wait and see

I just phoned them. I am not connected to the Benmore exchange. I am on the French Ln exchange which syncs max on 4mb. ADSL2+ is enabled on my router. Waiting for Telkom techs to phone me back now...but might just request to be moved to another exchange.

Hmm the Benmore exchange is 783 so who knows... But ur stats are unbelievable

This might be a late reply, but I am a few blocks away from Morningside, in edenburg. I get 512 kbps at night and 1024 during the day. GRRRRR!

Got told its distance to the exchange, but I could see on broadbandstats.co.za that there are at least 2 exchanges closer than the one I am connected to IN THE SAME STRAIGHT LINE!! If I don't look in the same direction another 2 are even closer. This really sucks. Also have no WISP in this area.

I am next to morningside in gallo manor. Connected to a Kelvin exchange. Connection has been poor for the last two weeks on all my ISP accounts. My line attenuation is high at 57db because of the distance to the exchange. Your line attenuation looks great…so jealous!
