Hi there

I'm in the process to upgrade my system. I currently have DDR 12gig modules which I'm gonna move to new upgrade.
What will a good nice upgrade be when it comes to the motherboard and CPU ?

I'm not sure to look at socket 1150, or which one.
Currently had a look at this: ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer Intel B85 Chipset, Socket 1150

If someone can assist me in my choice.

Thanx

Chris

Socket 1150 is the latest from Intel so its a good choice. The Z97 motherboards are better for gaming and a core i5 will go well with it. What is your current CPU, motherboard and graphics card?

Hi there

Currenlt I have socket 1155, I think with I7, 12 gig DDr3 and Nvidia 650Ti card. All I know is that my M/Board is outdated, I need to go for USb3, and Sata 3. My son has an older Dual Core, with DDR2 3 gig memory. I bought him last Month the R9 270X. I wan to upgrade his system aswell, but will need to get new memory also for him.

Hi there

My Budget will depend on what is a good buy. I'm still deciding, but don't want to take the world over either!!
Bad answer. OK well since OP is unable to give a budget I hereby declare that the budget is R30 000. Suggestions given this newly declared budget?

That time of the month? :D But seriously OP without a framework of total cost involved you're not going to get a straight answer.

Changing your motherboard and CPU will not give you any improvements in gaming at all. Upgrading only for usb3 and new sata ports seems expensive. Rather get a R9 270x.

Hi

Budget is around R 7000.00
I need M/Board, Processor, and about 8 gig memory for now

Thanx

What board do you currently have? How many memory modules do you have and in what size? What dual-core chip does your son have?

The board is a Biostar, socket 1155 (apparantly my CPU cannot be transfered to a newer board. I have 4 modules in total 12gig.
The sizes is 2,2,4,4

My son has a AMD duo core, with two modulel,1,2 total 3 gig memory. I bought him last month the R9 270X. with a 750watts power supply. His system seem very slow now, and the memory is still DDR2 (problem to get them). So I want to upgrade him first and then later mine with the same system board, memory etc...

Thanx

If you're keen on moving straight to Haswell, here's what you can do:

Intel Core i5-4670K @ R2788
Asrock Z97 Pro4 ATX @ R1766
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2x4GB @ R1072
Crucial M550 128GB SSD @ R1216
Total: R6842

Then you'll probably hand over the innards of your old system to your son so that his GPU won't be bottlenecked. Socket 1155 CPUs can be transferred to any other LGA1155 board, so later on you can bump up your son up to a better board.

Or if you won't be overclocking then you can take the i5 4670 and save some money.
