So I'm looking through the various dealer pricelists and can't find anything that catches my eye for less than R1000.

So far it's looking like my only option is the GIGABYTE G55M-S2H at around R850 ex vat or the GIGABYTE GA-H55M-UD2H at around R950 ex vat.

BUT I'm not too keen on the "integrated" side of things. A few years ago it was better to get discrete because onboard gfx would use memory. Can you disable this "Intel HD Graphics Support (On CPU)" ?

Anyone have this board and give some feedback?

Or suggest another board for the Core i3?

Thanks

Once you plug in a discrete gfx card I think it disables the onboard.

Why got an i3 though if you dont want integrated? You should be able to get an Athlon II 425 for the same price and the extra core will be much more useful.

As much as I trust Anandtech according to those benches you need a Athlon II 630 to consistently beat that i3, which doesn't seen right.

How much are you paying for that i3?

For that price you can get a Athlon II 635, which is a much better buy.

Paying R1109 ex vat...

PCint.co.za have a Foxconn board and the Intel H55 board for R796 and R872 inc. vat respetively.

Also got the i3 530 for R1043 inc vat which is basically the same chip, you could do a tiny overclock to the same speed a the 540 for free.
