Motherboard problems

Hi, this is for my friend

He just bought a new pc

Motherboard : Asus P5W DH Deluxe

& we updated to the latest BIOS

G card : Asus 7950 gt
Memory: 2x1gb DDR2 800

Everything works fine except for 2 things...none of the USB ports work in windows and when you say shutdown the pc turns off and then like 2 seconds later it turns back on & when I say the USB ports dont work in windows I mean that if you plug something in while its booting like mouse the light will come on and the motherboard picks it up but then when you get into windows it turns off(the mouse) and nothing happens...

Anyone else with this board who had this problem and could maybe help?

Is USB mouse and keyboard support enabled in the bios?

Exactly the same thing happened to a buddy of mine and it turned out to be a windows driver problem

So if possible I would try re-install the drivers or format windows. He messed around with his installation and somehow fixed it.

And turn on usb mouse and keyboard support in the bios.

Another problem he is has a Core2duo E6600 and in windows it uses 50% all the time even while the pc is idle, we tried reinstalling windows and still has all these problems

Have you installed all the drivers needed, Mobo etc?

The 50% problem sounds like the computer is only using one core. If you don't have spare components to test with, take it back to where you bought it and ask them to test if it's faulty. I have very little experience with Intel hardware and haven't heard of such an issue before.

Still sounds a lot like driver or windows problem. Can you get into and control the bios with a usb keyboard. If you can then it's very clearly an OS issue.

find out what proccess it is that's using the CPU like that

It is the "System" process and if you look under performance,it is using half of each core

Hmm, this all sounds really strange. I am rinning the same board, and have had no problems with it at all. OC's like a monster, and everything works. I think it is a Windows problem. Try connecting PS/2 KB and mouse, and going into windows then changing drivers and all.

He is using a ps2 keyboard and mouse at the moment & there is nothing wrong with drivers, device manager picks everything up fine, will edit later with a screenshot in windows as soon as i get my 1 from my friend
