For its price, this is a seriously impressive mid-range smartphone:
- 1.2ghz quad-core SoC
- 4.5" 720p display
- 1gb RAM
- Stock Android 4.3 (with a "guaranteed" update to KitKat)
- $179 unlocked and off-contract in the US
To put that in perspective, consider that something like the S3 Mini sells for about $360 in the US, the iPhone 4S for $450, and the Galaxy S4 for $650.
Convert those prices into South African terms, and it suggests that if the Moto G comes to South Africa, it could sell for Blackberry Curve-level prices. Even if it's not that cheap, it should be competitive with the S3 Mini, which has an awful display, a comparatively slow dual-core SoC, and laggy TouchWiz UI.
I wouldn't buy this for myself, but if it does come to SA, it will definitely be my default recommendation for friends and family who ask me what phone they should get.
