so apparently the rider behind has to be "within striking distance" ... and since the rider behind martin was a good couple of seconds behind there was no advantage to be gained... apparently
 
the one that confused me was the Acosta one - he clearly didnt take that LLP correctly but they allowed him to keep it - turns out they monitor LLP not using sensors but visually using CCTV -_-

anyhow - here's to 5 weeks and no racing

exactly - which is why it was bizarre... anyhow a great weekend of racing all round and of course some Honda contract dramas to spice things up
 
It's weird that Brad was docked two places in the sprint but only one place in the main race. Not sure how that worked, but anyway. Not sure if the Summer break extends to the factories as well but if not, I'm sure KTM will be working flat out to keep the developing the bike.

Well, the rule is a long lap penalty on the last lap incurs a 3 second time penalty as the rider is obviously unable to go through the long lap. This meant on Saturday he dropped two places. If the law was similarly applied on Sunday, it stands to reason he would have (should have) dropped behind Martin as well as he was up Espargaro's ass across the line. Hence my confusion.

I think the difference is:
  • On Sat he was given a LLP because of track limits incurred in therace - hence the 3second rule
  • On Sunday he had no track limits in the race but went outside the bounds of the track on the last lap - hence the drop in place

Oh of course, I forgot about the track limit warning he had already had early on in the sprint. Ok, that makes sense now.
 
Rules are rules. Marquez may not have had a chance to pass him if he didn't exceed track limits, but at least they should announce a time penalty.

While i love Franky and am sad about this - it was time. His last 2 years there have been terrible and he could do with a fresh start. he is fast - we saw how he kept up and challenged Fabio - he just needs to refind his mojo

Yeah, he wasn't the same since his injury. Allied to that is the fact that the Yamaha has just looked a handful. But good luck to him, wherever he finds himself.
