MotoMia vs Bajaj

I'm looking to spend between 15k - 20k on a bike, preferably something comfortable like a cruiser that I can take out to the beach or shoot through to Hermanus.

I have been eyeballing these two:

MotoMia Roma 250

Bajaj Avenger 200

Now, Bajaj is quite a large company from what I can tell. I know next to nothing about MotoMia.

These bikes are both cheap, but they offer good economy and in the case of the Bajaj, what seems to be good finishing.

Has anyone had experience with either two of these bikes?
 
My bike is not a Baja but its identical in build quality (also cheap Indian bike).

I've posted before how I think these Indian made bikes are crap due to my personal experience, but I must say that a biker bud of mine had a look it and did mention that I was overweight when I rode the bike (100-105kg) and getting 15'000km before the spokes went was inevitable.

The engine still runs 100% but some parts need replacement and it was more to my ignorance of bike parts than anything else that made me believe the bikes are crap. Sprockets and chains need to be replaced on a regular basis but they are easily sourced. Also remember to service your front fork.

But in all honesty if you cannot afford a Honda (> R30K), then going for a cheaper Indian made bike is the best. The only thing that you are going to want to do with Indian bikes is double check all the nuts and bolts are tight - I lost a couple while riding :)

I'm in exactly the same weight category, so now I'm thinking a cruiser type bike with spokes might not be the best idea in my case.

The MotoMia Roma in the link has mags, and it seems it is well supported locally. Just wish I knew someone who could give me a first hand account of how it performs.
 
Hmm, well, they quality on the little chinese/indian imports is shoddy at best. Bolts fall out, brakes fail, chrome is single-plated (starts rusting in 2/3 months) but they're quite cheap and if you don't mind constant maintenance, they should be ok.
 
Starting to lean more towards the MotoMia now... It seems they age better.

If you have to choose between spending 16k on a MotoMia with some maintenance and 60k on a Yamaha with the same maintenance intervals, you kinda still save money on the cheaper bike in the long run.

So many decisions in life, damn >.<

No. The cheapie will require more work than just the regular services. Cheap parts fail a lot quicker. I should actually take a few pictures of the bikes in front of our building. There's a few chinese scooters and bikes and 2 Yamaha SR250's. The scooters are less than a year old and the chrome is rusted everywhere, including around the shocks, bolts and mountings. The Yamaha's (built in the 80's) still look brand new without a spot of rust (apart from on the stock exhausts).
 
Problem is in this price bracket, finding something decent that hasn't been ridden to the max for years is hard.

If you purchase something new at least you know that someone didn't ride the thing hard for years before you touched it.

I'm not looking for scooters anyway, the bikes in the R10k range from the cheaper makes don't seem to rust badly from what I can tell.
 
You are making a huge mistake if you think a cruiser is more comfortable than a superbike. I speak with experiance and I would rather do 1000km in a day on a superbike than a cruiser.
 
What kind of power do you need? The Honda E-Storm is an option for lower speed (round town use) riding.

I need something to replace my Vuka 110, as I need to keep up on highways. Vuka is great for round town. Only cost me R6k a few years ago ;)

A colleague has the Bajaj- chrome is rusted to hell. He leave it outside though, not very well maintained...

Bikes/chrome need TLC

Yeah, I just got a Vuka bout a month ago.

All that did was make me want something bigger!

So a 250 should be fine, the Correto is an option, but I would dig to try a Roma for the comfortable seating a slightly higher power engine.
 
I rode the Bajaj around a bit a while ago- has loads more power than a Vuka. Though, I reckon even my Bicycle gets close :p

The ability to cruise at ~120 and get up a hill is what I need. Fuel efficiency after that, then comfort, then looks.

So what, in your opinion, would you get that fits the bill for about R15k?
 
Not having ridden bikes much (and even that was 20 years ago), isn't the E-Storm going to be a little under powered for guys over 100kg?
 
E-storm is a no no for me.

Would rather get a second hand 250-400 Honda / Suzuki / Yamaha then.

Tough decision to be honest!
 
Second hand Honda Twister CBX250. Without a shadow of a doubt. It's really comfortable, bulletproof, frugal and has more than enough power.

You may struggle a bit to find one for R15 000 but if you move up a bit to, say, R19/20 000 you should be fine.
 
Yes, been looking at the Honda Twister.

Expensive new, but second hand could be an option.

Modifying a good bike would make it to be an even better one that everyone would like to set their hands on. I do believe that every bike should be modified a little depending on your liking and the way you would be riding it. I do think that it would be a very good thing to have the best parts added to it as this is indeed something that would matter the most.
