I'm in the process of getting a car and need to find the most affordable plan.
I tried hippo but it seems to biased on certain companies and non of them give a good rate.

What others must I make sure to contact before choosing?

Discovery insure gives me the best rate, that is if you deduct the petrol money I get back, from the installment.

Always with the "most affordable" broker. You'll see just how cheap they are the day you need them.

This is insurance. Get a good insurance company and organise an affordable rate with them. Personally I use Santam through a broker. Never an issue, always one guy I need to phone.

As for your premium. A year or so ago I asked my broker why I'm paying so much vs other companies and their retentions department dropped my premium by close to 50%.

There is also a school of thought that reckons you should only insure for extreme cases. Basically they increase their excess to the maximum and only claim if the cost is more than the excess (we are talking R10k +)

Anything below that (small vendor benders, scratches, keys etc) they pay out of pocket because how often do you claim anyway? Do this significantly reduces your premiums.
