I'd like to start riding but I need to find out something first.

I'd like to get a cheapie to practice on and do my license with but I need to know what the minimum engine capacity for national roads is.

Normal 60 KM/H zones = 50cc
Highway 125cc

Just remember, if you do your drivers test on a 125cc or less then the license you get will only be valid for 125cc or less!

Another point is if you do it on an automatic (centrifugal clutch i.e., typical scooter) then your license is also limited in this way.. - OK I'm not 100% sure if this law is still standing.. it was when I did my test..

Speaking of licenses you should've seen the confusion on the cops face when I went for my drivers test.. I did it on my Vespa you see:

Cop: "Well you can only get a license for small bikes <= 125cc if you pass on this thing"
Me: "But it's 180cc .. so how can I drive a 180cc bike with 125cc license??"
Cop: "Yah well, OK we'll have to give you the license for larger than 125cc, but only for automatics..."
Me: "Uhm.. but actually .. it has manual gears.." :D

That caused more confusion among them... fortunately another cop appeared on the scene who sort of took authority.. so I got an unlimited bike license.. :D

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a Hyosung Aquila 650. Seems like a nice enough starter... I've ridden quite a bit before but mostly off-road Kawasaki 200's on the farm and 125's on the road if I had to drive drunk friends home.

I got an oldstyle code B

which means unlimited bike size :D

but I'm not that daft to drive a mongo bike...

Prefer something >125cc and <350cc which is light enough for traffic and respond well.
