Hi Guys

After browsing through this forum, I wasnt able to find a thread for this phone so I decided to start one.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Chat(B5330) and I have it rooted with all non vital apps removed. The issue is that the phone is slow and lags as it only has 443mb of ram as per the task manager.

I have whatsapp ad a few pebble apps running in the background which uses ~350mb when the phone is idle hence the upgrade.

What I like about the Moto E so far is
1) Price. at R1 490 from the orange store, the price is awesome
http://store.orange.com/za/mobile-phones/sim-free-phones/motorola-moto-e-black-261543

2) Bluetooth 4.0 LE which will help save battery life when used with my pebble.

3) Due for upgrade to Lollipop as per Motorola.

After a little more research, I see that Mototola plans to launch a 2nd gen of the Moto E very soon with better specs.

So has anyone taken the plunge and bought this phone, and if so, how is it?

I don't have the phone, but do you know the specs. of the new phone (2nd gen.) ?

Would be interested myself, especially if they improve on the following :

1.) make internal storage > 4GB ;
2.) put in a removable battery (possible, now that Lenovo manufacturing Moto's) ;
3.) fix up the following, per link below :

Camera doesn't have auto focus and produces low-quality photos and videos
No camera LED flash
No front-facing camera

Well nothing has been confirmed as yet but from what i have read, the 2 biggest changes appear to be a larger screen(4.5in) and use of a 64bit chip instead of 32bit.

The official specs are expected by Feb 2015 if I am not mistaken.

In terms of your improvements above,
1) 4gigs is upgradable to 36gig if u use a 32gig memory card which i feel is more than enough.
2) I hope they make the battery removable but considering that I never replaced a battery on any of my phones, its not a deal breaker.
3) As for the camera, it is one feauture which i can do without. I only use my current camera to take pics in lowest setting to send over whatsapp.

I wonder how much the price of the first gen will drop when the second gen is announced

Nothing confirmed? Then you're wasting your time. It has to be confirmed then you have to wait for stock, it could take many months or even a year.

Well the specs were annouced in Feb 2015 an the orange store had stock within 2 weeks.

I have ordered one for R1 775 for the LTE model. from the videos I saw, the phone is awesome for the price

Please post again stating how long it took for you to get the phone from Orange - they're renowned for their excellent service levels + delivery times :)

Will do. I placed the order on the 12th but the was a problem on their system with payment which was sorted out on the 16th.

ETA is 8 working days.

I will update once received

Hi Guys

Today FedEx dropped off the phone and I must say, it is worth the price.
Feels solid, quick response, and stock android

Great that it arrived so soon, considering Orange's track record - enjoy the phone :)

Hope you can live with the cameras - front & rear, excl. flash as well.
Unfortunately, have read a few uncomplimentary write-up's to do with the cameras (everything else, most people love about the phone).

But, I'm still thinking of getting one, some day, when my current phone packs-up - will possibly get either this, or the Lumia 525.

Here's an eg. :
http://www.greenbot.com/article/289...-phone-with-an-absolutely-abysmal-camera.html

The Moto E's 5-megapixel rear-facing camera is better than its predecessor, but it's still not very good—which isn't surprising considering the camera performance of either generation of the Moto X and Moto G. Motorola doesn't exactly have the best track record with cameras.

Outside under the blazing sun, the Moto E takes acceptable photos

.. low-light performance is abysmal, however. The Moto E doesn't have a rear-facing flash, either, so you won't be able to shoot photos in the bar or in a dimly-lit room.

The VGA front-facing camera isn't much to write home about either.

The camera is one feature I can live without.

To be honest, I dont think the front camera will ever be used and the rear camera will be used for low quality pics to send over whatsapp.

I would have liked a flash to use it as a flashlight but again, its not a deal breaker.

Its a huge upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy B5330 as I can load all the apps I want.

Another good point is that I saw the launch video from some big shot from Motorolla and he said future android upgrades will be available for this phone.

If this phone gets android M(Milkshake?) when it launches in a year, it will be the cherry to top it off.
