Well the other OEM's been doing it for age's so I dont think its Google's doings.

For example on the same day Samsung released the source for Galaxy tab 7 and 10.1n's but it did not make headline news as its just a normal day at the office for them or HTC and alike.

After posting I saw that Moto also released the source code form some other phones and that this really is not such a big deal.

I downloaded the source and gave it a quick oggle and it looks like device drivers. So custom ROMs will be on the way... In fact they would be coming anyway, but this should make it a bit easier.

But I think the RAZR also has a locked bootloader Why won't company's let us break our hardware if we want to?

Locked bootoader is by request from SP's only. So depends on your service provider if your RAZR's bootloader will be locked.
