Does anybody have any experience connecting to the internet using this? I am trying to help a friend who over the phone. Apparently the Vodacom help line just keeps on disconnecting today. When she tries to dial, it show a "harware failure". It shows the number *99# as the dialup numer. May that be incorrect?

To the best of my knowledge the number has to be: *99***1# although I may be mistaken
(I have tried with *99# before, but could never get that to work)
I assume you have got the extra modem settings in? (AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet")

Hope this helps... :D

Thanks redarrow, I emailed this to her. That dial up number is the same one that my Merlin data card uses, and I think also the same on someone elses Nokia phone when we set it up a few months ago. Will see what happens. Tx.

I had a V300 and the data cable and it was always a problem.
Check in the control panel to make sure the "modem" (In this case the phone has actually been detected).

(Assuming XP here)

Start -> Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options
Click on the modems tab.
You should see the Phone there.
Select the modem and hit properties.
Select the Diagnostics tab.
Click Query Modem.

If you get a response, then everything it fine. If you don't get a response, it's a driver problem, or the physical connect to the phone is not working for some reason.
