Mountain Lion Out

I've seen a couple of articles on the topic at the usual apple sites. Googling os x mountain lion clean install should find them. They all seem to assume that you have a spare USB HD lying around, though.

Sorry you misunderstood me my problem is that the app store and software update does not work in MLion. I cant redownload any of my purchased apps. I just want to know if others are having the same problem as me?

So I just jumped from Snow Leopard which I was very happy with. I have 6 Macs here (2 MBP, 2 iMac, 2 MacMinis) so I chose to make an install drive on a 16GB flash drive.

Overall, I am very happy - there are some cool new features. I love the new features in mail, and the notifications by swiping two fingers from the side. There are a few features that have confused me however...

1. On mine they have reversed the two finger browsing down through a page. I just cannot get used to having to swipe UP in order to go down the page !!! Is there a setting that can put this back ?

2. In Safari, I am lost - I preferred SL with the http bar being split, and having half devoted to google searches. I am always doing google searches and really liked having that facility right there. I am sure there is a new alternative but finding it difficult locating it.

3. On all my installs, everything went well....except right at the end I had a message that the dictation service was corrupt and couldn't get installed. Whats up with that ?

Im still finding my feet - the jump from Snow Leopard is quite big...if you want to make use of all the new features

That is the new default for scrolling in OS X to align it with iOS. You can change it in the mouse/trackpad settings in system preferences, for now. Eventually I expect Apple will remove that option.

The search bar and address bar have been combined into the omnibar. Just type your Google searches in the address bar and it will work as expected.

Dictation requires an extra download as far as I recall. If you want to use it try reenabling it in system preferences and see if it redownloads correctly this time.

Thanks icyrus for your input. Yes, right after I noticed the scrolling irregularity I went straight to system preferences hoping to find a way to revert it back. However, I don't see this in sys pref when I am on the trackpad settings.

Okay on the omnibar, it will take a bit of getting used to.

cheers for now

In the trackpad settings there are 3 tabs: point & click, scroll & zoom, more gestures.

The option you are looking for is "Scroll direction: natural" in scroll & zoom.

@Sensor: You can't buy it on a flash drive anymore, Apple have discontinued that route. If you bought your Mac from an iStore recently and qualify for the upgrade then they apparently will help you with the download at no cost. However if you didn't buy from them or bought outside of the official free upgrade period they will probably charge you an arm and a leg. Lucky you if they don't charge you for their bandwidth usage.

They gave me Mountain Lion on DVD at Digicape after confirming my serial number on Apple's site. No mess, no fuss. Plus now I've upgraded my iMac with the same disc without any request for a serial #. Nice!

Ahhhhh got it, many thanks - I don't know how I managed to overlook it before.

Day 3 giving up on the download keeps timing out tried from the office and from home cleared all apple.store temps, tried in safe mode etc.
Does anyone in Durbs have a downloaded copy? I do have my iStore receipt.
TIA

Occasionally when rebooting I never get past the initial grey screen with the twirl :(
Reboot again and it comes right, then says to me "something was borked, would you like to reopen the apps that were open"

I'd restart in recovery mode and run a disk and permission scan.

Did you pay Digicape the $19.99?

I want to get Mountain Lion, but I can't download it at work, and I'm on 3G at home... :(
