Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS on a Quad Core i3 with 8GB RAM
250 GB SSD

Have added a 500 GB HDD
Had some initial mounting issues but came right months ago.... or so I thought - but some s/w doesn't like it re access rights.

So, used sudo chown to grant general permissions for the /media folder route to accessing it, but this didn't help the problem s/w items.
Then noticed that one of the apps was trying to access the HDD via the /run folder route - granting permissions here causes some minor instability, which sorted itself out but re-locked most of the folder's access, and still doesn't work even for accessible areas...... so looks like I'm in a dead-end now :- (

Seems ridiculous, such issues to simply access one's own files, and one of the types of reasons I don't recommend moving away from Windows usage for most.
Anyone have any ideas?
(Not going to fiddle too deeply though, this PC is working well now and don't want to risk anything.)

Can you post the full error?
XDM (a popular download accelerator) - just gets stuck when saving to within "HDD". No problems saving to the SSD.

Filefly (recommended for file transfers, via our private LAN) - states that access is denied. Haven't finished setting it up, so no further info.
Do you want a screenshot?

All other access seems fine, including file manager, another download app, and any downloads directly via my Firefox browser.

Weird stuff.. maybe a small bug somewhere, given that there were initial mount problems too.
Guess I'll just live with it, not major.

I'm wondering if I should give permissions to the /dev folder, based on post #3

Also, network sharing using the Samba s/w?
But not just doing anything, you're the pilot.
