I've read up on this, saw the pics, and decided to ask a bit. I think it can be done, but I've never done it before, this will be my 1st time.

Should I rather just get someone who's done it before to come do it, or should I save the money and get my mates to help me out one Saturday afternoon?

I want to mount the plasma about 1.8metres from the plasma stand...Its the normal plasma unit/cabinet, those low of the floor wooden units. I'll have the DSTV/DVD/AV/Storage USB in the cabinet, and run ALL the wires to the TV...

The TV must not tilt, it must be mounted flat against the wall.

The power supply will be behind the cabinet.

So I'm thinking this can be simple, just get a reasonably sized gape in the wall, get the wires of all the equipment in there, fill the gape up again...paint the entire wall(we are going to repaint the whole room so we want to do this before we paint) and voila!

I know it won't be as simple as I think it would be...

What if the equipment wires can't reach the TV?

I still want to buy a home theatre system...I should have this before then...

But what do I do if the wires are too short? Do I just lower the TV????

Pls help and advice would be appreciated.

This is actually fairly simple to do as long as you don’t have two hands full of Thumbs.

I would suggest that you ensure the length of your current cables is sufficient before you start cutting your walls open. If not, you can get extensions or longer cables at your closest electronics store. For future expansion, I would suggest that you populate all your additional ports on your Set with the relevant cables.

As example, if you have two HDMI Ports, put a cable in it. It will make your life a lot easier when you add additional components at a later stage.

Depending on the size of your screen ,also ensure that you get a decent wall bracket and not one of those cheap Chinese ones. Trust me, this is not an area you want to save on.

Hope this helps.

hi MVGL - so I can just get longer cables for the DVD player and the DSTV at any electronic store? DAMN!

Ok...can I get the wall mount for a 42" at the electronic store as well?

One other thing...I can't seem to get any info, pictures of the actualy wall cutting ANYWHERE?

Use a angle grinder with brick cutting plate to make two or more cuts cuts slightly wider than the conduit/pipe you're gonna use. Next bang the brick out with a hammer & chisel. Install conduit, ideally you want a cavity behind the position of the tv & cabinet where you can install outlet boxes with a faceplate for connectors/power etc. Cement/plaster conduit in place, wait for it to dry and sand it down. Paint wall.

You may want ot check the height of your placing. 150cm is said to be the best height, 6ft (1.8m) might be a bit tall if your sitting at 90cm? Also find out what your backing is built from, Brick or Block...this might have an impact on the strength of your mounting, don't want that tv falling off.

When you chase the wall, try avoid a straight cut up to the exit, giveit a little curve out and back in, this will help the conduit from moving and then cracking your filler/plaster at a later stage.
