Mourn With Me! :'(

this thread just reminded me why i have 3x 80gb hdds backed up in my cupboard, each labeled for their purposes.

and then a 500gb samsung and a 80gb split for windows and critical backups. and then ofcourse ... bluray backup for those "long term files" :D

sorry for your loss OP, 2TB is a hard nail to swallow lol ... ouchy :(

i sometimes do defrags and do disk doctor checks , do these actually help ?

If you were a PC enthusiast you should have known that the constant starting (Spin-up)
of a hard drive is the main killer of one! You should do what most people have never heard of....LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER ON!

And make sure:

'Turn off the Hard Disk after (Never)' and Put the computer to sleep (Never)

My PC has been running 4 months without turning off. I have 1x500GB 2x1TB and 1x2TB all running 24/7.

PS: What brand was your beloved 2TB?

I think most people on the forum know this, but leaving your PC on is just a pain

Me for instance... My PC's in my room; it would annoy the hell out of me if I'm trying to sleep and it's humming the entire night

My 2TB died today. My only condolence is it was not yet full. But I lost over a TB of movies and series. So sad. :(

The click of death greeted me this morning when I turned on my drive. ALAS poor drive I loved thee.

Oh well out with the old and in with the new.
What suggestions do you guys have for a cheap NAS or at least some sort of RAID solution?

Hard luck GforceD, it can happen to anyone, for example over the stormy previous week in Durban lightening struck a telephone line near cousins house, he only had is ethernet cable plugged into his PC nothing else had power, and his whole PC blew up, everything, screen, HDD, PSU, motherboard, CPU etc.
