Hi all,

We have been experiencing declining service form hetzner, ever since they unilaterally decided to can their colocation service, and have reached the point where we want to move away from them and their sulky consultants. Does anyone have any recommendations for a colocation service provider, preferrably one which does not simply resell IS.

thanks

Hi Golden,

How many servers do you need to host in collocated space, what are server sizes (U's) what are your average monthly bw requirements?
You mentioned "preferably one which does not simply resell IS" - are you referring to their CPT datacenter?

Um, you do know that Hetzner has been a big supporter of MyBB for many years now? What sort of issues are you having because I have a colocated server at Hetzner in Jhb and they have been excellent in my eye.

P.S. It's customary to do an introduction on your first post.

I am not sure what you are trying to say here? Because you are benefiting financially from Hetzner I cannot say I am not happy with their service?

I suppose service levels are in the eye of the beholder. Well ever since they stopped their co-location service we have noticed they are less than enthusiastic about having to support co-location. They just want you to move to their truserver offerings. They don't provide any upgrade options and they aren't enthusiastic about getting called out to allow you to replace a disk after hours.

Is this a custom on MyBB because I have never heard of this on other forums? I am not sure what you would like to know? I live in Johannesburg, provide outsources IT services to several customers and generally like computers. The intent of this post was to find recommendation on co-location providers. If you feel strongly pro-hetzner I do not have a problem with that.

We have 2 x 1 U servers and 1 x 2 U server. They are virtualised and run several os instances, we recently completed a server consolidation exercise. Our bandwidth requirements are around 20 - 40 gigs a month. Not much. We prefer not to be on IS because they are slow to pass on cost saving to consumers so would like to support a smaller or more agile provider.

WTF does that have to do with the issue? If he is not happy with their service then he can go wherever he wants to.

Please tell us the name of your business. I think I know you.

Perhaps Vodacom Business is worthwhile looking at? Datacentre in Midrand is quite advanced, and way more flexible than existing Hetzner and IS offerings, IMHO. PM if you need a contact to investigate options.

Heztner just cut our hosting of for a measly R89-15, and the invoice was only sent out 21 Jan 2010...WTF?!?

we will be looking for new hosting partner!

and they still want to charge a connecting fee for the service because it has been suspended.
