I leave this post here as reference for anyone else changing fibre ISP's - it boggles my mind that so many things are uncertain when deciding to change isp's - ISP's should have a standard operating procedure that automates the process of changing ips's - i fear that i will experience significant downtime but am hopeful that @RSAWEB would rise to the occasion. Vumatel too should be more active in this moving ISP process.

Gave notice to CellC on the 28th September 2020
CellC confirmed receipt on the 29th September 2020 and service will be cancelled effective 31 October 2020

Signed up with RSAWeb on the 25th September 2020 - and i hope that RSAWeb moves as speedily as they did in signing me up to actually getting me back online again.

I have been trying to be proactive and engaging with RSAWeb .. here is their response

Hello A*

We trust this email finds you well.

A migration of services is an admin change on the back end, this would mean you still have the equipment from your previous provider that can be used while we arrange our hardware. Our hardware is arranged once the services belong to us and it is active.

There should be little downtime in terms of your connection but we would still need time to arrange the administration and router delivery only once the line is confirmed to be released on Vumatels portal.

We hope this information helps.

Kind regards

mail received yesterday ...
"Hi A*,

VUMATEL have just confirmed your migration order. Happy days!

Usually, VUMATEL migrations take 1-5 working days. To get connected as soon as possible and avoid any delays, please make sure your previous Internet Service Provider (ISP) has released the fibre line or cancelled their service on that line. Any active services on migrating fibre lines will be pushed back by VUMATEL. Unfortunately, I am not able to cancel your previous order with another ISP on your behalf. Usually the migration is seamless and you will go live with RSAWEB in a few days. Remember, your billing begins with RSAWEB from the moment the migration is completed.

You’re just a few steps away from great connectivity.

You will receive a progress update from our Project Team, either by email or SMS. If you have any questions about your order please do not hesitate to call our Project Team on 087 470 0010, using your mobile number as reference.

Kind regards,
RK

Last day with CellC ... holding thumbs that the migration to @RSAWEB goes smoothly with minimal downtime

1 November still active on CellC fibre ... ai, maybe its a Sunday and they dont work on a Sunday. That why I say Vumatel should be involved in the migration process ... they control the infrastructure.

Typically as an ISP you set the date for Vumatel to release the line before the date it's released and it's an automated thing.

So either they didn't cancel the line or it's a provisioning issue from Vumatels side.

Hello

Thanks for the tread, do you have any more feedback?
17th November finally on @RSAWEB - according to support at CellC they wanted another mail to release line (go figure). I did not send this email as this was requested in my initial mail to them - this migration happened without me even knowing it was done.

Me thinks CellC cancelled service but did not notify Vumatel to release. I think Vumatel needs to be more involved in the migration process as delays from the current isp in releasing the line affects the client (i have heard of clients being without internet for weeks). The only reason I did not blow my fuse was that even after CellC said that my services was cancelled I still had internet access via them for the 2 weeks. 17th November finally migrated.
