I'm ready to move my system drive from HDD to SSD. I read about all that I could find on the net about it so hopefully will not be an issues.

I have INTEL DH55TC MB
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-board-dh55tc.html

See that I can install SATA 3 with 3.0 Gb/s speed.

What is the best SSD that I can buy 90GB or 120GB and where should I look for one?

I see price for 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s SSDs are the same, will 6Gb/s SSD work on my MB?

Thanks a lot for your time.

120GB min I reckon. I ran a Vertex 3 120GB for a while and have moved up to a 256GB Vertex 4.

Esquire have good prices.

+ 1 for the 120/128GB Vertex series - running the Vertex 3 in my laptop and Vertex 4 in my PC - best buys ever...
Afaik the 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s are backward compatible so both should work with your m/board - rather go for the 6Gb/s for future-proofing imo.

O boy, i recal the moment i booted up with my first ssd that i am currently using. A samsung 128gb and feeling the difference between the ssd and hdd for the first time is something no other pc component can match. Maybe it's the computer geek in me but it was a great feeling :D.

Just built a new i3 based Media Center PC for home surfing/streaing etc. use. I decided to just stick to using a HDD since, I mean, it's JUST a media center pc .... well, I can tell you after using SSD's now for about three years he moment I started using that thing I started realizing once again why SSD's are so awesome...browsing through online prices as I'm typing this :D

Bacon will do the same thing to you :p :D

Is the vertex 2 any good? I can get a 100gb for about R800.

OP, any reason you can't do a clean install rather than trying to move everything ?

The Vertex 2 is ancient. They've progressed a heck of a lot since then.

How does a Toshiba 63187 2.%" SATA III SSD rate then? I'm limited to what the store has in stock at the moment. My caddy to replace the DVD/CD drive with something more useful arrives tomorrow.

I had the Vertex 2 120Gb and one evening it just died. Shutdown my notebook and went to bed. When I accessed my notebook in the AM the drive was stone dead. Sybaritic sent it in and replaced it with a Vertex 3 which is now the primary drive in my desktop machine. Vertex 4 256Gb is primary in Alienware.

I read that the Vertex 2 failing was rather common. 2 mates also had theirs fail on them.

The 3 and up are solid. Would stay away from the 2.
