We're a website development company, so we don't make a lot of money out of domains and we're not looking to make a fortune in markups (we basically just bundle them in with a package). Legacy system is R75/domain so R55/domain is already a R20 saving. We're also not keen on spending tonnes of cash to get accredited. Considering we only have around 150 domains, becoming an EPP registar doesn't make a lot of sense (we'd rather have a third party that maintains everything, and we can just log in and change things when need be).

Domaincheap is R5 cheaper (it adds up), but ZADomains allude to the fact that, apart from one line, you can make it appear as if you're the registar and everything which is semi-important to us as we prefer to whitelabel anything we're not directly in control of for appearance sake.

A quick update to all, our reseller platform is free and incurs no monthly charge.

People who resell should have a simple stance. Much like OpenSource, the service may be cheaper elsewhere but the ease of provision and assistance is greater and well worth the added $$$.

As a developer I am sure that you want transparency, ie your clients do not see another web hosting provider when they view the whois details on Uniforum site

Domains.co.za advertises web hosting / competing products on its site, how is this a reseller model?
Resellers require transparency of their provider, this is the first thing that resellers look for in a reseller provider.

But yes, they also offering competing products.

The same applies if you resell services / domains through Godaddy, Enom, Register.com, etc. They all have their own hosting products which could be considered "competing"

I agree with this.

A person who is technically savy enough to work out who the core service provider is behind a reseller, isn't the kind of person who is going to buy services through a reseller, they are probably going to be reseller themselves or go directly to a core provider from the start.

A person who buys services through a reseller simply wants the service at a good price, with good support. They are not interested in witch hunting the Resellers providers, nor do they know how too. They usually go through a reseller because in most cases a reseller provides support with a personally touch over a large core provider and there is usually some interaction with the reseller beforehand (like website design, on-site services, pastel support, etc).

I have a bunch of clients who know I resell to them, in some cases at a premium. They don't care as what I reselling isn't the core focus, the service around it is and that's what makes it worth sometimes paying double with a smile.

If however you are planning on reselling domains/dsl/hosting or whatever else as is you will probably never build a business as you aren't adding any value to your clients life.

While a lot of the negativity here is toward domains the result is the same for both providers, they HAVE to email the clients directly and that contains their contact details. Your clients are almost guaranteed to find out your are reselling... Your biggest concern should be how you will justify your markup to them.

Just to clarify, we do not mail any of our resellers clients. All e-mails which are sent to the registrant are sent by ZA Central Registry. The e-mails occur at any stage where an update is performed to the contact / registrant and significant changes in the status of a domain which could have an impact on its status.
