I think you can choose a movie collector or dvd library,depending on your interest. I haven't had an experience like this,because i always use this Mac Video Converter
to convert all my video files so that i can play them on my portable players.Maybe you can try this method!

Ant Movie catalog: opensource, has scripts that pull info from IMDB and other sites...

I use Movienizer, it's a freeware and has many interesting features. After entering a movie name it downloads all info on it from different on line databases and has several searching options within catalog. It also has a built in player so you can watch movies directly from the program.
