Movie Mini-Review Thread - Part IV

Coyotes (2025) 5 / 10
Some unconvincing CGI. Would have been 4.5 / 10, but some scenes were actually fairly funny.

The Lighthouse (2019)

Finally got to watch. Pretty good. Great casting, and good cinematography. One of those movies where it will probably reveal more on a second viewing. >> if Harold Pinter reimagined Eraserhead, with lots of contrived symbolism.

7.5/10

A House of Dynamite - 7/10 ... I enjoyed it and also happy with the ending

Dead of Winter - 6/10 ... Was ok for a Sunday night movie ;)

I know what you did last summer 2025 - 1/10 ... was playing in the background while I was watching F1 racing (wife watched) ... but the bits I caught was complete b0kn@@i ... and the mid-credit scene suggest there is more of this crap coming

Versus (2000) - 5/10

I have never been so confused and entertained at the same time. I was told this would be a yakuza vs zombies type of movie but comes across more like a low budget Devil May Cry adaptation. Like a pre-teen power fantasy.

Bone Lake - 6.5/10. Strange mix of 90's erotic thriller and well....the plot of Speak no Evil.
Hand that Rocks the Cradle - 6/10. Remake doesn't work despite some committed performances. Original still rocks.

The Long Walk - 5/10 ..... went like, nowhere. And again, a stupid ending, must be the trendy thing lately.

Good Boy - 6/10 ..... pretty standard fare but it was nice (and ultimately sad) to have the unique perspective

Anemone (2025) 6/10

The legend that is Daniel Day-Lewis returns for his first acting role in 8 years, to support his son the director. The movie itself is a slow burner, big on symbolism. The main/real highlight here is DDL & his performance. The movie itself is shot nicely but wont appeal to all.

Ballad of a Small Player (2025) 6/10

Had some hopes for this "psychological thriller" but it wrote checks/cheques it could not cash. It's all over the place, overblown & attempts to be many things. Colin Farrell is super convincing & the Macau and HK backdrop is a delight at least.

22 Jump Street

Damn. A movie and it's sequel that are both good comedies that don't drop the ball. Sometimes you just need some silly laughs.
