Moving a Telkom Line (cable) - How difficult is it?

I'm currently busy extending the patio at my home and the Telkom cable running from their post is going to start interfering with my building project within the next couple op days. The cables runs from the post to my house, where it is attached to the facia board (and a roof rafter) by means of a metal loop. from there the cable is routed through the rafters along the roof line (behind the gutters) to the point where it reaches my study. At this point it enters my house via an air brick.

I phoned 10210 and the first reply is "can't you cut it":wtf: I didn't even know I was allowed to touch Telkom's infrastructure. I'm pretty sure I won't need to cut the cable in order to re-route it along the other side of my house.

My question then - should I attempt it? I'd rather do it myself (and do it when and the way I want to) than waiting for a Telkom technician and coughing up R460 for the pleasure. Is there anything I should look out for / avoid whilst doing it?

Check the polarity / colour coding. Cut it. Re-attach as per your colour code. Simple.

Do you want to extend it between the pole and the metal loop (attached to the house), or between the metal loop and the phone jack?

Rerouted my cable from the splitter attached to my exterior wall (goes from there to the pole) a couple of years ago and Telkom had no problems with the new setup when next they attended to a fault.

Between the metal loop and phone jack - I might need to cut the wire, but I'm hopeful that I won't need to - my house is a basic "L-shape" and currently the cable runs on the "inside" of the L and I just want to re-route it to the outside of the L.

That is easy. I extended mine with Cat 5.

Turns out - not to hard at all:D Moved the cable on Saturday and even got a free sauna for a couple of minutes in the ceiling. R460 in my pocket and a new experience gained - cha ching

Your Telkom line is just 2 wires and polarity does not make a difference if cut and rejoined.
