Cape Town before December holidays.
Does anyone have any recommendations for moving companies you've used or are trustworthy in Cape Town?

Also wanted to ask where I can get boxes for moving for cheap? I don't want to pay a lot just to throw them away later.

Stop being lazy. Use your car, do a few trips. I am sure you have friends that can help with the big stuff? It is a schlep, I know but the savings are well worth it! Check your local Pnp, checkers ar babie shop for empty boxes that you can get for free.

It's really easy to say. I moved to CT recently, don't really have friends here that can help me with the big stuff. I am gonna move all the small things with my car, its the big things (fridge, washing machine, etc) I need transport for.

Have you got a towbar? A trailer is R150 per day excl insurance.

Where in CT are you moving? (From to?) If it's close to me (Sanddrift), I'm happy to help.

I'm moving from Cape Gate to Wynberg. I'm a bit far from everything so trying to move closer. Thanks, I'm only moving end of August so if you are able to help then I'd appreciate it.

Keep me posted. I've set a reminder in my calendar as my ADHD will otherwise dribble me.

TrailerRent also lease out these Mahindra bakkies for R600 (C/O N7 and Voortrekker road)

Your post made me realize I am the mover in my friendship circle (wannabe trucker who enjoys towing a trailer):

Below is my favorite vehicle to use. TomTom or Thomas The Tank. It's a pity he is out of commission at the moment.

The worst part of helping anyone move is when they omit to mention "We need to go up/down X floors" (often without a service lift!)

depends. i have a towbar. had the biggest trailer i could practically rent. asked my friends with bakkies and still had to get a truck for some appliances, massive bed/backboards and stuff. in retrospect the cost of movers and one big truck is way more value for money than the effort if you moving from one freestanding house to another.

ive seen people use this company a lot if this helps you 1559 reviews

I would strongly agree. We used them and other family members have used them too. Extremely quick and professional. For our move, we even got a small rebate because the actual work was a little less than the quote we paid for.

Before kids I did it myself with a hired trailer and a friend to help. Probably did this 2 or 3 times without incident.

Now that the family is grown and there is a young kid I need everything moved fast and the essentials set up on day one. I used go gorilla and it was smooth and fast. Compared to previous moves it felt like my stuff teleported. Worth the bucks if you have them to spare.

Uhm yeah about that, I currently live on the first floor with no elevator. So will need to go up and down one flight of stairs at least.

Charging R5k plus for two beds, a fridge, a couch and a washing machine is quite expensive. I am gonna look around for options but its tough in a new city without people you know to help.

You can always rent a crowd, go down to any Builders and grab a crew or ask on your local community facebook/whatsapp group for the details of the resident Zim or Malawian garden technicians and then ask them for guys to help move. They always have a wide network of their countrymen needing work, offer R300 each for half a days work, job done.
