Hi every one for the past 5 years I've been using Lunarpages a international shared host, but unfortunately over the years they have gotten pretty expensive and it works out to R135p/m

My site is extremely small and hardly uses 500Megs of bandwidth a month, and is about 150megs in size, but I use the email consistently and would really like to keep the site up.

I noticed Afrihost has a package for R49 a month and offers:

3.5GB of bandwidth every month , as well as 3.5GB webspace
200 Email Addresses
5 Mysql accounts

But they dont specify what size there giving you on both the Email Addresses and SQL databases, and that makes me worry,or if they allow multiple domains.

What I want to do is have me other website still functional(downsize it) but create a new local website ,can I do this on there account (Was never a problem on Lunarpages)?

Any suggestions?

PS Forgot to mention I am fairly comfortable with linux hosting

Axxess seems cheaper still

R49:

5GB Hosting
5GB Bandwidth
2 Sub domains
500 Email Addresses
25 Mysql databases

Seems pretty good, has any one tried it?

I moved from Lunarpages a while back due to their outdated software (at the time) and terrible support. Had about 6 different hosting accounts (about 30 domains hosted) with them and every time I needed support (about once a year) I ran through hoops with these guys.

The final straw was when a client was told they would delete his Gallery2 installation as he had files (his sport images) not residing in the 'www' folder. This was after hosting his site on LunarPages successfully for more than 5 years.
One of the security recommendations for Gallery2 is to place the images away from public access. So basically LunarPages was forcing us to make the site less secure because they could not understand the application which was endorsed by them through cPanel. Every time you got a reply to your support ticket, it was from a different person (that is when they actually bothered to read our responses !!) and you end up going in circles.

I moved everything over to HostGator and so far these guys rock !!! They even transferred the data (+/- 20 gig) from LunarPages to them at no charge.

Although HostGator is also based overseas, you might want to give them a try.

Check my sig. I'd recommend Softdux or texo, both of which have admins on this forum. Pm softdux_rudi and he may even let you try before you buy. Both offer Cpanel with automated invoicing and payment via cc.

Thank you guys for the help,

@ITCynic: I was on Host gator before lunarpages, but had problems with there acounts department, so wont go with them

@murraybiscuit: That actually looks very tempting, they allow 5 or more parked domains so it will work for both my sites.
Is any one els using them, and how reliable is it?

@AcidRaZor Wow thats cheap and they have nothing but compliments on hellopeter o.O

Elitehost,Gridhost,Domaincheap

Get a shared hosting acc, move your email hosting to Googleapps for free

Thank you guys!!

Got Elite Host, everything I checked out from them so far seems good :)

There are plenty of good cheap hosts. I have accounts with HostGator and their service and support is excellent. If you want something local, then look at ServHosting and HubHost, they are also very good from my experience.

Ive actually been using EliteHost ever since my last post, and I must admit, its rock solid, even compared to my old international hosting from Lunarpages or Hostgator(I only had HG for about 2 months though several years ago)

Local clearly has its advantages though, it seems like Google actually gives me a better ranking, and so does local search engines, really impressed so far :)

Glad you did not make the mistake I made of going with mweb

I have a small personal site hosted with mweb (R19 a month thing) but they dont allow CHMOD 666 so I didnt go with them :( , and there bigger packages are overpriced for the size of sql database you get.

PS What are they doing now, should I consider moving?

We have been using Vodahost for about 4 years now and are $7.95 a month...but have everything under the sun. Really great support. Usually respond within 30min re a query. Have a look. Also in the four years have only had 30min downtime. Anyway...letting you'll know :)
