I am moving away from my my current ISP ( Afrihost) who is the current best kid on the block..

Went through a similar exercise, ended up moving back for that very reason ... give it some solid thought before acting if you have domains etc.

Unfortunaly after 5 years as a client I think we have a different views on how business should operate in the South African enviroment and I prefer to partner with companies that share my long term views going forward..

Depends what your problem with your ISP was support, line speed, throttling/shaping, what package are you on and you usage a month. We need a bit more info.

Mis-alignment is in no way realted to IT or hosting but to general business practise and my personal opinions on how business should treat eachother...

Event if they are the best ISP, I would then be looking to do business with the Second best ISP

Afrihost is not the best ISP by a long shot.

I've been with all the major ISPs at some point (Afrihost for 6 years), and I think it's fairly safe to say that Crystal Web is the best of the well known ISPs. Their prices are a tad high, their user portal is still not live and they don't offer rollover, but their network quality and live chat support is phenomenal. I don't think I've had a single issue in the months I've been with them that was due to their network.

In the interest of fairness, I'll say that RSAWEB is also outstanding. Their uncapped products do not throttle (ever, at any usage level) and their shaping is lenient. Considering the quality of my capped Crystal Web account, I assume their home premium uncapped products are very good too though.

Afrihost's network is prone to issues from my experience (and the MyBB threads), Vox and Web Africa look to be going down the drain, Mweb has a decent network but a totally unacceptable cancellation policy and despite being on the same network Afrihost is on, Axxess is getting good user feedback and winning ISP awards here on MyBB.

I recommend going with one of these ISPs (the best imo, in order):
- Crystal Web
(unbelievable performance, uncapped night data on capped, news server, excellent uncapped, great customer support)
- RSAWEB
(unbelievable performance, no night data on capped, no news server, excellent uncapped, great customer support)
- Axxess
(3 month rollover, great pricing, news server, decent support)

Afrihost were once good, but then they started changing shaping policies on the sly, and never sorted out of problems, after spending many hours doing tracerts for hours. I have cancelled my account with Afrihost, so lest see how September is. I do find it strange how they don't seem to worry about clients leaving, obviously business must still be good.

Hi Guys, looking at trying the webafrica 20 mb uncapped for R475. Currently on webafrica 40 mb capped 400gb. Had to cancel because of the shaping which is very frustrating when u want to download a 700mb file at like 7pm and it download at almost 2mb.

Whats the shaping like on the 20mb uncapped ? I'm sure its worse than the capped.
Also how are their capped business account compared to to the capped home accounts.

Thx

Why on Earth would you change from an unshaped account to a shaped one if the unshaped one isn't performing well?

Just leave Web Africa. Refer to my post above and you'll have a great internet experience.

Well the capped account I was told is shaped unless I take business capped. Never thought a capped account would be shaped so badly.
My thinking is I can't pay for capped knowing it's shaped. Anyway I reconsidered... think I will do a capped account at axxess. Had a good experience by them until I moved to webafrica to take advantage of the double data special.

Any ISP that offers shaped capped accounts is one to avoid.
